Alex Barrett is slowly progressing with his book about conservation in Africa and the conflicts and issues that face the well intentioned outsiders that become embroiled in the industry. Using short stories and true life examples he hopes to bring a new insight to a subject that turns out to be far more complex than it first appears. You can now read some extracts of the book as well as follow his progress as he shares snippets from his journal with us.

Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit continue their uphill struggle in Zimbabwe and Charles Brightman has issued their latest newsletter which you can read here.

The conservation area should be of particular interest to you if you want to see how environmental and conservation issues are being handled right there on the ground. Three exciting wildlife conservation efforts, concerning endangered species, in Zambia including Africa Wild Dog Conservation, Conservation Lower Zambezi and the North Luangwa Conservation Project who have reintroduced black rhino back into Zambia after an absence of over two decades. South Luangwa Conservation Society are now successfully operating in the most visited park in Zambia.

The leopard - one of the most elegant yet endangered species of African wildlifeThe photo library contains many photographs of Southern African wildlife, including a number of endangered animals, that you are welcome to use though Afrikeye will be grateful for a credit. There are a few travellers' and folk tales to entertain you as well as useful information on travelling to Africa in the Visit Africa section. It is also interesting to feature one of the local education projects; Chipembele serves to inform local students and facilitate an experience of the local wildlife and habitat with the intention of improving prosperous livelihoods in the future.
